Whit Baylis was born in New York and grew up in New England. His artistic expression as a youngster guided him to major in sculpture at Long Island University in 1997. He was first exposed to glass blowing at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, New York, in 1998 and subsequently transferred to Johnson State College in Vermont where he was exposed to flameworking. He has pursued the study of glass at several fine institutions, including Massachusetts College of Art and Design & Corning Museum of Glass. Since 2005 Whit has lived in Northern California. He currently works out of his home studio and draws on inspiration from master glassblowers Albin Schaedel and Kurt Wallstab.
